I don’t with forcing al-Haji out, as it is an action out of all proportion with what he did. His paper was not hateful, and he was trying to prevent a great evil with a lesser evil. It was a ‘minimal harm’ argument.

That having been said, I do believe his argument to be in error. FGM is a thing to which nothing should be conceded. An evil such as it must be removed root and branch with no concessions made. To concede is to show the evildoers who enforce such a brutal practice weakness, and they will attack weakness.

Randall, this comment is not aimed at you, because I know you’re firmly against bigotry of any kind. I think it may not be the best thing thing to quote Loonwatch, at least until they clean up their act. They use Latuff cartoons in many articles and have articles with names like “Islamophobia, Zionism and the Norway Massacre” and “Conspiracy Theory? Zionist Connection to Organized Islamophobia”. This doesn’t mean all or even most of their stuff is bad, but…

I agree that the site is partisan, and the proprietor has his own “phobias” - I’ve seen other evidence than what you cite, but in this particular instance he’s mostly reposting what the doctor himself posted in the letter, and it bears reading. (e.g. if you go back to his old blog you can see him taking potshots at this site, based on thin evidence of Charles not reporting a madman on a shooting spree as a terrorist attack, and missing an IRA attack - even though we post those when we come across them.)

I hear what you are saying, but do you feel the same way about male circumcision? If not, why not, since it actually affects more tissue?
